Okay, so, I got this idea to mess around with some art stuff about Jon Jones. You know, the fighter guy? I’m not really an artist or anything, but I figured, why not give it a shot? It all started last year, around February, when I first tried to learn a bit about art. It was pretty random, but I was looking for a new hobby, something to do in my spare time.
I didn’t even know where to begin, really. So, I started by looking up some stuff about Jon Jones online. I found out he’s actually from South Africa. I tried to find some inspiration, like, looking at mountain art or sunset art. Pretty views, you know? Just trying to get a feel for it. Then I thought, maybe I could try drawing some architecture stuff too, but that seemed way too hard.
My first attempts were, uh, not great. Let’s just say, I’m no illustrator. I mean, illustrating book covers or children’s books? That’s some next-level skill that I definitely don’t have. But I kept at it, just doodling here and there, trying to capture some of Jon’s vibe. He’s got this cool “Look-see-do” fighting style, inspired by Bruce Lee’s “Jeet Kune Do”. Basically, he watches fight footage and then tries to copy the moves. I thought that was pretty slick, so I tried to show that in my drawings.
- I tried to sketch him in different fighting poses, you know, like he’s in the middle of a match.
- I messed around with drawing his face, trying to get his expression right.
- Honestly, most of it ended up in the trash. But hey, it was fun trying.
Then I read about his training routine. The guy’s a beast! He does long-distance runs, those crazy HIIT sprints, cycling, swimming, and it’s all about building up endurance and explosive power. He wants to be good at both aerobic and anaerobic stuff, which is pretty intense. I tried to incorporate some of that into the art too, like drawing him running or swimming. But man, drawing water is hard!
I also tried to show some pride for his city in my art. But that didn’t turn out too well. He seems like a proud guy who loves where he’s from. And who can blame him? It felt important to put that in the art somehow. But yeah, I’m not sure I pulled that off.
It Was a Mess, But I Learned Something
In the end, my Jon Jones art project was kind of a mess. But I had a blast doing it, and I guess I learned a thing or two about art, and about Jon Jones. Maybe I’ll try it again sometime, but for now, I think I’ll stick to admiring art, not making it. But who knows, maybe one day I’ll surprise myself and actually make something cool. It’s all about the journey, right?
