Alright, so I’m gonna walk you through how I made this killer Dallas Cowboys tie dye shirt. It was a fun project, kinda messy, but totally worth it in the end.

First things first, I grabbed a plain white t-shirt. Gotta start with a clean slate, ya know? I pre-washed it to get rid of any sizing or anything that might mess with the dye.
Next up, the fun part: the tie dye! I decided to go with the classic spiral pattern. So I laid the shirt flat and pinched the center, then twisted it around and around until it was all coiled up like a cinnamon roll.
Then I used some rubber bands to hold it all together. I made sure the rubber bands were nice and tight so the dye wouldn’t seep in too much in certain spots. Think of it like sectioning off a cake before you frost it. Roughly six sections is usually good.
Now comes the dye. I used a tie dye kit I picked up at the craft store. It had a bunch of different colors, but for the Cowboys theme, I went with navy blue and silver/gray. I mixed the dyes according to the instructions on the box. Gotta follow those instructions, or you’ll end up with a muddy mess!
I started squirting the dye onto the shirt, alternating between the blue and the silver. I made sure to get the dye deep into the folds and creases. You want the color to really penetrate the fabric for that vibrant look. Flip the shirt over and do the same on the other side.
Once the shirt was completely covered in dye, I put it in a plastic bag. This keeps it from drying out and helps the dye really soak into the fabric. I let it sit for about 24 hours. Patience is key here!
The next day, I rinsed the shirt under cold water until the water ran clear. This is super important, otherwise you’ll end up with dye bleeding everywhere when you wash it later. Keep rinsing, even when you think you’re done. Seriously.
After rinsing, I took off the rubber bands. This is where the magic happens! You get to see the pattern you created. It’s always a surprise, even if you’ve done it a million times.

I washed the shirt in cold water with a mild detergent. I washed it separately from other clothes, just in case any dye still wanted to escape. Then I tossed it in the dryer on low heat.
And that’s it! I had my very own Dallas Cowboys tie dye shirt. It’s not perfect, but it’s unique and I made it myself. Plus, it looks pretty cool! Now I’m ready for game day. Go Cowboys!
