So, I noticed something the other day about Khamzat Chimaev. The beard was gone. Just like that. Clean shaven.
Honestly, my first thought was, “Huh, that’s weird.” You know, he has this whole ‘Borz’ wolf persona, the beard kind of went with it. Gave him that rugged, scary look. Seeing him without it felt a bit strange, like seeing a cat without whiskers.
Naturally, I got a bit curious. It wasn’t some big research project, mind you. Just me, sitting there, deciding to look it up. I basically just started searching for recent pictures. Went through a few different sites, image searches, that sort of thing. Took a bit of clicking around.

- Had to refine it, look for more recent appearances, interviews maybe.
- Eventually found some clearer shots. Yup, definitely no beard.
He looks different. Younger, maybe? It definitely changes his whole face structure. Less intimidating? Hard to say, really. The intimidation factor probably comes more from, you know, the actual fighting.
My Thoughts on It
Why’d he do it? That was the next thing I wondered. I poked around trying to find a reason. Found nothing solid. Just people guessing online, same old story. Maybe for a weight cut? Some guys do that. Shave head, shave beard, every little bit counts, I guess. Or maybe he just felt like a change. Who knows?
It reminded me of this guy I used to work with, Dave. Had this massive bushy beard for years. Claimed it was his power source. Then one Monday he walks in clean-shaven. Looked like a totally different person. Said his kid pulled on it too hard and he just snapped, shaved it all off in the middle of the night. People do things for random reasons.
Finding the actual ‘why’ for Khamzat felt like trying to find matching socks in my drawer. You spend time looking, you know they should be there, but you just end up with a bunch of singles and no real answers. So, I found pictures confirming the shave, but the reason? Still a mystery.
End result of my little look-up session: Khamzat Chimaev shaved his beard. He looks different. Why? No clue. Does it matter? Probably not in the cage. He’s still the same fighter. It’s just one of those visual changes you notice. Like when they suddenly change the packaging on your favorite brand of chips. Throws you off for a second, then you move on. I guess I’ve moved on. He can fight with or without the beard, makes no difference to how hard he hits, I reckon.
