Okay, so today I decided to tackle this crossword puzzle I found, themed around ‘Jean of Fashion’. Sounded kinda fun, right? I like jeans, and I like a good puzzle, so why not?
Getting Started
First thing, I printed it out. I always prefer doing crosswords on paper, feels more real, you know? Grabbed my trusty pencil – gotta have an eraser handy – and poured myself a cup of tea. Settled down at the kitchen table, ready to go.
I scanned the clues first, looking for the easy ones to get a foothold. Stuff like “Color of classic denim” – that was a quick fill-in, BLUE, obviously. Then there was one about a famous jean brand, started with ‘L’, pretty straightforward.
Hitting a Few Snags
Things got a bit trickier after the low-hanging fruit. There were clues about different cuts and styles I wasn’t immediately sure about. I vaguely remembered terms like ‘bootcut’ and ‘straight leg’, but matching them to the specific clue number and letter count took some thinking.
There was this one clue, 7 Down, something like “Distressed jean feature”. I kept thinking ‘rips’ or ‘tears’, but it didn’t fit the squares. Spent a good few minutes just staring at it. Then it clicked – maybe something like FRAYING? Checked the crossing letters I already had, and yup, it fit perfectly. Felt pretty good about that one.
Some other words that made me pause were:

Filling it All In
I worked through it bit by bit. Sometimes I’d leave a tricky clue and work on another section, hoping the crossing letters would give me a hint later. That usually works. I jumped between the ‘Across’ and ‘Down’ clues quite a bit. It’s like piecing together a jigsaw, slowly seeing the picture emerge.
Had a moment where I confidently wrote in a word, only to realize later it messed up three other crossing words. Out came the eraser! That’s why pencil is key, folks. No shame in correcting.
Eventually, after maybe half an hour or so, I got the last word filled in. It was one about a specific type of jean jacket, I think. Felt that little buzz you get when you finally complete a puzzle.
Final Thoughts
It was a decent little brain teaser for the afternoon. Not too hard, but challenging enough to make me think. Definitely brushed up on my jean terminology!
