Okay, so I’ve been playing a ton of Stardew Valley lately, and let me tell you, catching a walleye was a real pain. I’d heard they were tricky, but man, it took me forever to finally snag one. I read somewhere that they are good for making a Fishing Vest, so I went to Emily’s house to try it out.
First off, I spent days just trying to figure out where these darn fish even hang out. I’d cast my line all over the place – the river, the lake, you name it. Nothing. Then, I finally did some digging online, which, you know, I probably should have done in the first place. Turns out, I wasn’t even fishing at the right time of day or during the right season! These were the most important steps I had missed.
- Finding the Right Spot: I learned that walleye like the river, the mountain lake, and the forest pond. Okay, cool, that narrows it down a bit. But it’s still a lot of water to cover.
- Timing is Everything: Apparently, these fish are only active during rainy days and you can only catch them in the Fall. I’d been trying in the Summer and on sunny days. No wonder I wasn’t having any luck! They also only come out between noon and 2 AM.
- Getting the Right Gear: I was using the basic bamboo pole you get at the beginning of the game. While you can technically catch a walleye with it, I decided to upgrade to the fiberglass rod. Figured it couldn’t hurt, right? I bought some more effective bait too.
Once I had all this info, I waited. And waited. Finally, a rainy day in the Fall! I grabbed my upgraded rod, some bait, and headed straight for the river. I cast my line near the JojaMart, since I read that’s a good spot. I made sure that I went there after 12 PM.
I fished for hours. Real-life hours, not just in-game hours. My character was probably exhausted, but I was determined. Finally, around 6 PM in the game, I felt a strong tug on my line. This was it! After a bit of a struggle, I reeled it in, and bam! There it was – a walleye. I felt like I’d just won the lottery.
I used it to make a Fishing Vest and tried dyeing it. It turned yellow. Pretty cool!
So yeah, that’s my walleye saga. It was a frustrating, but ultimately rewarding, experience. Now I can finally check that fish off my list and move on to the next challenge. Maybe I’ll try to catch a sturgeon next. Wish me luck!
