Okay, so, I set out to do the 40-yard dash, like those NFL guys. I’ve always been kinda curious about how I’d stack up, you know? So I thought, why not just go for it? No fancy setup, just me, a stopwatch, and a track.

CMC 40 Yard Dash: Is It a Key Predictor of Success?

First off, I needed to find a good spot. I ended up at the local high school track. It was a sunny Saturday morning, not too many people around, which was perfect. I paced out the 40 yards. I didn’t have any cones or anything, so I just used some rocks to mark the start and finish lines. Real professional, I know.

I did a few warm-up jogs. I stretched out my legs, did some of those high-knee things, and a couple of butt kicks. I wanted to make sure I didn’t pull anything. Then came the hard part – actually running.

  • First run: I got down in a three-point stance, kinda like I’ve seen on TV. I pushed off as hard as I could. I felt pretty fast, at least for me. I hit the stop button on my watch as I crossed the finish line. 6.2 seconds. Not bad, I guess, but I felt like I could do better.
  • Second run: I took a few minutes to catch my breath. This time, I focused on my form, trying to keep my body low and drive with my legs. I felt a little smoother this time. My time was 5.9 seconds. Okay, I’m improving.
  • Third run: I’m starting to feel it now. My legs are burning. I decide this is the last one. I take a deep breath and go for it. I’m pumping my arms, driving my legs. I don’t know how I looked, but it felt fast. I cross the line and stop the watch. 5.7 seconds.

So, 5.7 seconds was my best time. I’m not going to lie, I was hoping for something under 5, but hey, I’m no professional athlete. It was a fun little experiment, though. I definitely got a good workout, and it was cool to see how I measured up, even if it was just against myself.

It’s tough, much tougher than it looks on TV. Those NFL guys are on a whole other level. I have a newfound respect for their speed and power. Maybe I’ll try this again sometime, but for now, I think I’ll stick to my regular, less intense workouts.

After I finished, I walked a couple of laps around the track to cool down. My legs were definitely feeling it, I must have pulled some muscles in my thighs. It was a good reminder that I’m not as young as I used to be. But overall, it was a fun experience. It’s always good to push yourself a little, even if it’s just for kicks.

I packed up my stuff and headed home. I took a nice, long shower and spent the rest of the day relaxing. I deserved it. And who knows, maybe one day I’ll break that 5-second mark. But even if I don’t, it was still a blast to give it a shot.
