Okay, so I’ve been messing around with Ark: Survival Evolved again, specifically the Fjordur map. It’s a pretty cool map, but figuring out where all the good resources are can be a real pain. So, I decided to create my own little resource map, and I thought, “Why not share my process with everyone?” So, here’s how I did it.
Getting Started
First, I hopped into the game, obviously. Fjordur’s a big place, so I knew I’d need a systematic way to explore. I decided to start with the main island, figuring that would be the most straightforward.
Exploring and Marking
I grabbed my trusty Argentavis (because, let’s be real, flying is the only way to travel) and started systematically flying across the map. I picked a direction, generally going from west to east, and then north to south in a grid-like pattern. Every time I spotted a significant resource node cluster – like a bunch of metal rocks or a patch of crystal – I did a few things:
- Hovered over the location to get the GPS coordinates.
- Took a screenshot, just for a visual reference.
- Jotted down the coordinates and a quick description (e.g., “Large metal deposit near the green obelisk”).
I repeated this process, section by section, until i fully circled the map. I realized it would be easy to get lost or accidentally repeat areas.
Compiling the Information
Once I felt like I had covered a good chunk of the map, I took a break from the game and started organizing my notes. I could’ve used a fancy mapping tool or something, but honestly, a simple spreadsheet worked perfectly fine. I created columns for:
- Coordinates (Latitude and Longitude)
- Resource Type (Metal, Crystal, Obsidian, etc.)
- Description (Landmarks, nearby dangers, etc.)
- Screenshot (Just pasted the file name for reference)
I started filling in the spreadsheet, row by row, with all the information I had gathered. This was probably the most time-consuming part, but it was also super satisfying to see it all come together.
Refining and Updating
Of course, my map isn’t perfect. Fjordur is huge, and I’m sure I missed some spots. So, I’ve been treating it as a “living document.” Whenever I’m playing and stumble across a new resource node, I add it to the spreadsheet.
Conclusion
My resource map has been extremely helpful for me. It helps plan my metal farming runs. It lets me quickly locate obsidian when I’m working on some new gear, and I highly recommended doing something similar. It’s a bit of work upfront, but it saves so much time in the long run.
