Diving into ‘At the Mounds of Madness II’
Alright, settled in to tackle this ‘At the Mounds of Madness II’ task from Handshake yesterday. Heard it wasn’t too bad, but you never really know with Gray Zone until you’re actually boots on the ground, right? Decided to go in relatively light. Didn’t feel like risking my best kit for what sounded like a quick grab-and-go.

So, I prepped my usual run-around gear:
- My go-to rifle, nothing too fancy.
- Basic armor vest and helmet.
- Couple of bandages and a painkiller.
- Enough water and maybe a snack bar.
Didn’t want to be weighed down. Speed helps sometimes more than thick plates.
Getting There
I deployed to the LZ closest to the target zone, the one near those weird mounds. Think it was LZ Alpha 2? Yeah, sounds about right. The insertion was smooth, chopper got in and out without any fuss. Then came the walk. Always hate that first bit, moving off the LZ, feels like everyone can see you. Pushed into the jungle, moving slow, listening more than looking sometimes. The sounds in this game still get me on edge.
The Target Area
Made my way towards the coordinates Handshake gave. It leads you to that creepy little camp, the one with all the strange symbols and huts. Place gives me the chills. Spotted a couple of AI guards patrolling the perimeter. Took my time, waited for one to move off alone and dropped him quietly. The other one didn’t seem to notice, so I skirted around him, trying to avoid any loud noises.
Finding the actual objective… well, the task description tells you to look for some kind of ritualistic knife. I started checking the huts. The first one was empty, just some junk. Second one had some supplies, but not what I needed. Moved to the central area, near a makeshift altar thing. And there it was, sitting on a crate, looking all kinds of nasty. Exactly what Handshake wanted.
Getting Out
Grabbed the knife, shoved it in my pack. Didn’t linger. The goal was to get in, get the item, and get out clean. Started heading back the way I came, moving carefully again. The trip back always feels longer, doesn’t it? Especially when you’ve got the mission item. Kept glancing over my shoulder, expecting trouble, but the jungle stayed quiet. Lucky run, I guess.
Made it back to LZ Alpha 2. Called for evac. That wait for the chopper is always the worst part. Crouched in a bush, scanning the trees. Heard the rotors, finally. Ran to the bird, hopped in, and watched the ground fall away. Task complete. Handed the knife over to Handshake back at base. Another job done, another bit of XP earned. Wasn’t too complicated this time around, thankfully.
